Maria Lázaro-Berenguer
I'm a PhD candidate and pre-doctoral researcher at the Biotechnological Pest Control (CBP) laboratory located at the University of Valencia. My research focuses on the biochemical study of insecticidal proteins from the structure-function perspective. In my doctoral thesis, I've been working on characterizing the mode of action of Vip proteins from the entomopathogenic bacterium Bacillus thuringiensis, mainly focused in understanding their binding properties to midgut cells and toxicity against lepidopteran agricultural pests. Looking ahead, I aim to pursue a postdoctoral position focused on studying pore-forming proteins, continuing to explore their interactions with cell membranes and structure–function relationships, applying my background in biochemistry and cell biology while expanding my expertise in structural biology and biophysics.
